Jen Conway

Welcome to my online studio! My name is Jen Conway and as a late starter, I am developing that which we all have within us:

The Power to Create

I am largely self-taught with the exception of that important first introduction to drawing, form and colour that lit the fire.  I have attended many workshops to learn new techniques and ideas. And, I have had the privilege of exhibiting in a variety of shows including:

  • The Capilano Mall North Vancouver (juried)
  • The Harmony Arts Festival, West Vancouver
  • The South Delta Artists Guild , “Oil and Water" Show (juried)
  • The Tsawwassen Art Centre
  • The Grand Prix of Art Steveston, Richmond
  • The North Vancouver Community Art Council "Anonymous Show"
  • The Arts Council of Surrey, Christmas card contest
  • The NVAC Art Rental Programme
  • Riverview Market
  • Art-E-facts show room in Malalane
  • Hamiltons Curio Shop

I have also been commissioned to paint portraits in:

  • Vancouver, Canada
  • South Africa
  • London, England

Playing into my artistic capabilities is a broad visual sensibility. Being born and raised in South Africa has given me the opportunity to experience a wide range of topography, from the harsh, starkness of many African landscapes to the lush and rugged beauty of British Columbia, Canada where I lived for over 30 years. I like to experiment with media and texture, weaving imagination with reality and the happy expectation of the birth of an idea. I love to paint “en plein air” but am also quite content working from my home studio in Malalane, South Africa.

Previously, as a member of the South Delta Artists Guild I enjoyed weekly drop-in figure drawing sessions, allowing me to experience and appreciate a wide range of models.  It is painting the human form, so unique yet diverse, that is my true passion.

I now teach 5 - 9 year old children after school hours and, through these little people, have learned more than any workshop or course could offer.  I am passionate about bringing others to see their true potential and I am truly rewarded by their enthusiasm to know their own creativity.

For me,
the Act of Creating Art is All-Empowering

Art is a Means of Expression and a Form of Communication
- for both the Viewer and for Me, the Artist.
